Vasaloppet volunteers honored at art show

The Many Faces of Vasaloppet sculpture project was on display at the Vasaloppet Nordic Center May 17-18. Visitors were able to see the aluminum casting of over 150 Vasaloppet volunteers as well as meet the artist, Keith Ravio and others who have assisted in the two-year project. The future vision is to have all the castings in a permanent outdoor display to honor the volunteer spirit of Vasaloppet USA.

16km of manufactured snow now on race course, more coming this week

The Vasaloppet Snow Farmers continued to make good progress on the Vasaloppet race course and cold temperatures have provided them with ample piles of manufactured snow from snowmaking equipment. See video As of Friday evening there is now 16km of manufactured snow covering the Vasaloppet race course. Next week week the Snow Farmers finish-up several small sections of trail before the final grooming on Friday evening for Saturday’s race.

When complete, the entire race course will be built on a solid base of manufactured snow. and provide skiers with marathon-length distance races as well as shorter races.

The race course line-up currently is: The Vasa: three laps for 54km; The Dala: 2 laps for 36 km; The Classic: 2 laps for 42km; The Bell Ringer: tentatively 13km.

Vasaloppet preps two race courses, new race & course names for 2018

Vasaloppet USA this year will prepare two ski courses.  Depending on snow conditions the directors will decide to use either The Legacy course, the traditional point-to-point course from Warman to downtown Mora, or The Mora course at the expanded Nordic Center trail system and utilize snow-making equipment as in the past several years.

Plus, the Vasaloppet has renamed all it’s races.
