30km race 11:30 am 15 km race 11:30
The Fat Vasa bike race takes place on February 9, 2020 in Mora, Minnesota, located a quick one hour trip north of the Twin Cities.
The 10km course will be lengthened to 15km for 2020 and run exclusively on the groomed Nordic Center ski trails. You can expect a fast course over the trails Vasaloppet racers used the day before.
Our races are run over the Vasaloppet ski trails. The 40 km race runs north of Mora through the rolling wooded country side and loops back to finish on Mora’s Main Street. With 8 inches of snow right before the race last year our course was definitely a challenge. We will continue to improve trail grooming, but expect a demanding course.
Both races will be timed by Superior Timing. We welcome bikers of all ability levels.
Both races have a mass start on Lake Mora just north of the down town.
Fat tires (3.8 inches or wider) are required, as are helmets. No E bikes allowed and please dress for the temperatures with layering and an outer shell. Cover exposed skin to prevent freezing.
Online race day registration available in the Celebration tent beginning at 7am.
Transfers from the long race to the short race are allowed at no cost, however transfers from the short to the long race require payment of remaining fee.
The Celebration Tent is available to racers before and after the race.
Awards are given to the top 3 men and women in the 40K race and the top 3 overall finishers of the 15K race. Awards for the 40 K Fat Bike races will begin at 1pm outside the Vasaloppet Headquarters building weather permitting. Alternatively they will be held in the celebration tent. 15K awards to follow. Changes to award time will be posted in the Celebration tent.
Bikers can also earn the DoubleLoppet award when you also participate in both the Penn Cycle City of Lakes fat bike and the Fat Vasa.
