First Chance Race January 4!

The Vasaloppet First Chance Race is scheduled for Saturday, January 4 beginning at 11am at the Vasaloppet Nordic Center.

The First Chance Race will offer skiers the option of a 5km or 15 km race on portions of the Vasaloppet race course. It is the first event of the Vasaloppet winter race series. That series also includes the Moraloppet on Feb. 1, the Vasaloppet races on Feb. 8, and the Last Chance race in March.

Skiers can register online through January 3 or on the morning of the race. Race distances are dependent on the snowmaking conditions through December.

The Fat Vasa short race lengthened to 15km

40km  race 11am     15 km race 12:30

The Fat Vasa bike race takes place on February 9, 2020 in Mora, Minnesota, located a quick one hour trip north of the Twin Cities. Details

The 10km course will be lengthened to 15km for 2020 and run exclusively on the groomed Nordic Center ski trails.  You can expect a fast course over the trails Vasaloppet racers used the day before.

Our races are run over the Vasaloppet ski trails. The 40 km race runs  north of Mora through the rolling wooded country side and loops back to finish on Mora’s Main Street. With 8 inches of snow right before the race last year our course was definitely a challenge.  We will continue to improve trail grooming, but expect a demanding course.

The race will start and finish in downtown Mora. Awards will go to the top three male and female finishers. Registration is $25. The Classic 20km will be followed by the Fat Tire, Skijoring and Miniloppet events on Sunday. REGISTER

Volunteers are working to finish the final touches on the second snowmaking depot, which is located on the northern end of the Vasaloppet trail system. The depot will greatly reduce the time it takes to haul snow to the northern portion of the trail system. The Vasaloppet purchased a second snowmaker last year and operated both snow machines at the Nordic Center. This year, one will be moved the new snow depot. Register here.
