Racing the clock before warm weather arrives Friday, Vasaloppet organizers decided Thursday to emphasize quality over quanity and not attempt to haul snow on a short section of trail that would have added the last half a kilometer to the 14 kilometer race course loop.
That decision will mean skiers will ski a 13.5km loop rather than the 14km loop race organizers had originally planned. Course conditions as of Wednesday afternoon remained excellent.
Trail crews face a Thursday night deadline to have all snow hauling and trail grooming completed before Friday afternoon’s warmer temperatures. Early Saturday morning the course will receive a light grooming with Yellowstone groomers. Classic tracks will be set Thursday.
