The inaugural running of the Vasaloppet’s Swedish Mile Trail Run, was held last Saturday on the Vasaloppet Nordic Center trail system.
The trail run consisted of a 10km (that’s a Swedish Mile) race as well as a 5km race. The event will serve as an annual fundraising effort to support the Vasaloppet Nordic Center complex, snow making and trail development.
The course utilized many of the Vasaloppet traditional ski trails as well as some less traveled loops and included newly developed single track sections.
A total of 45 runners took part in the event and with five inches of rain in the previous week there were a number of water hazards and plenty of mud for everyone to run through.

Once temperatures are cold enough, hopefully in late November or early December, Vasaloppet race officials say snow making will begin at the Nordic Center. Once enough snow is created skiing will open to the public.
